Katrina Update
Lucky Hurricane Katrina survivor.
Trish called; she has intermittent (outgoing) service on her roommate’s cell phone. Her house weathered Katrina, and she didn’t have any flooding. She’s there now. Seven houses away, the houses were all flattened. She’s intrepid; yesterday she went to check on Mom and Dad by canoe (!!), and that’s when Dad fell and injured his arm.

No Pics
Sadly, no wet suit pics from Fistral Beach.
I woke up last...apparently to the annoyance of Wayne...at around 9am. We all met for breakfast in the dining room, got ready and walked to Fistral beach for our first activity of the day....Surfing Lessons. Now if u think for a second that i am going to post any photos on here of me in a wet suit...or on a surf board...then u are sadly mistaken.

A Terrifying Punch Line
From a funny story from a trip to Greece.
“It was good meeting you boys,” Tim says. “You should come to Calexino tomorrow. The only nude beach on the island. Nudity is not compulsory, of course, but it’s recommended. And I will be bringing the bar.”

The Amazon
What a great trip up the Amazon.
Slight change of plan and we actually went to the jungle city of Iquitos rather than Puerto Maldonada. From there we took a boat up the Amazon to the jungle lodge, stopping at a riverside settlement on the way. The lodge was great, parrots and monkeys. Our jungle guide was Ricardo and our first outing was to a Shaman (medicine doctor) who explained how he worked. Night fell at 5pm so we went on a jungle nightwalk to watch the fireflies. Ater dinner, the local girls dressed in traditional costume and performed a dance ceremony. The Shaman came back to the lodges and he saw a couple of us for ´readings´ in the hamock house - amazing! The next morning we rose at 5am for breakfast and the took a canoe out onto the Amazon to watch dawn break and to see the pink dolphins!

Water Bra Bikinis
Okay, this is just weird.
This new bikini may look a bit weird but it’s chest great for keeping cool. Using the latest in swimwear technology, the Evian bikini boasts pockets which are filled with mineral water! And according to boob boffins, the cold water will even help tone, firm and shape your beach body. The bra’s filter funnel means bikini babes can top up the water level at their leisure, controlling how cool they keep their boobs.

Which Board?
Click through and help make the choice for this surfboarder.
My new surfboard will be one of these two. Which one should I choose? Considering I know very little about surfing, or surf boards, lets go with aesthetics. What looks better? The second photo: the middle board.

Time To Die
Thoughts after a cancer diagnosis.
I also think about the wonderful things that I have seen and experienced. D is the most wonderful person in the world to me and I've been so lucky. I have three children and I am humbled by the wonder of seeing them grow up to be seven, five and two. It's been hard at times of course, but so rewarding. I've snorkled over coral reefs. I've been rock climbing, canoeing, windsurfing, white-water rafting. I've read some great books and seen some wonderful films. I've got some fantastic friends. I've visited Hagia-Sofia in Istanbul and seen the ruins of Ephesus. This is beginning to sound like Rutger Hauer's swan-song in Bladerunner! I've been skiing. I've overflown Angel Falls in Venzuela and trecked up a river gorge into the foothills of the Ayantepui. I've seen the street markets in Thailand and the Philippines and smelled the tangy, earthy aroma of the food stalls there. I've been bungy-jumping and I learned to ride a unicycle.

Piano Man's Identity Revealed
That mystery piano man in England who couldn't talk, but could play the piano, was at a beach party before he was found.
Must have been quite a party!A spokesman said 'Now that he's secured multi million dollar film and book rights that will see him get a life of luxury, he thought it best to reveal to everyone that he just got wet in the sea after a beach party and kept his mouth shut for a few weeks.'

Cutting The Grass
Pear missiles whilst sunbathing?!?!
What a sodding riddiculas past time!Honestly, itl only grow back and have to be done again in 3 days time. Up and down the garden like a yoyo with a spinning blade disguised as a child's toy. Felt like a right pillock. At one end of our garden is a diseased and cantacourous old pear tree that produces concrete missile 'pears' which it drops intermittently when your sunbathing. At the other there is the washing line - which unleashing clothes to strangle and blind you, all in all makes the garden a bit of a health hazard. And someone said gardening was suposed to be a relaxing hobby!

Great Race
I've never heard of a triathalon that includes canoes.
Just this past weekend I headed back to Auburn, NY to visit my parent’s house for the last time before they move and to bike in the Great Race. The Great Race is a team triathlon, where one person runs, one bikes and two canoe. I’ve always been the runner, so this year I thought it would be a good change of pace and a good prep for the triathlon to bike. It was different experience actually waiting for someone to finish before I could go, but at the same time very fun. I ended up finishing the (hilly) 10 mile course in 31:55, which I was pretty happy with, especially since I was somewhat sore from biking the same course the day before (albeit, a little slower).

Grains Of Sand
Did He create all the grains of sand, too?
Some scientists say that the number of stars in creation is equal to all the grains of sand on all the beaches of the world. yet this complex sea of spinning stars functions with remarkable order and efficiency. to say that the universe "just happened" or "evolved" requires more faith than to believe that god is behind it all. there's no doubt it my mind that god created the universe.

Cool Water
Probably a good thing the water was cool.
Tuesday(9th) - Went to Miami for the beach. Jay took us to a topless beach and didn’t tell us. So, we of course picked the one spot that had topless chicks that shouldn’t have been topless. Anyways, the Miami beach was pretty sweet… nice waves and cool water.

Scuba Wannabee
It is a different world when you've got scuba gear.
A funny French man (with 4 kids – two of his own by two different women) was our driver down to the south (near plakias) to go scuba diving (snorkeling first, under the supervision of Eric who was mark’s one on one scuba partner). (Mine was a novice who hit me into the rocks, hehe, but was nice anyhow and great otherwise). We were with a bunch of brits who I hung out with later that night (Laura, Disa and Alex – alex was turning 27). Scuba was INCREDIBLE, it’s another world down there… I definitely want to get my scuba certification… and somewhere exotic. Hmmm. We came back, bought our tickets to santorini and ate at another place at the venetian harbor… gotta go to dinner, will continue later, the kids are restless). I went out with the “british blokes” as Angelique called them, got a little hmm, tipsy, came home, slept until had to leave in the morning.

Dragon Canoe!
I'd love to see a Dragon Canoe race.
Sunday morning, when I was otherwise bored and had nothing to do, I decided to ride my bike to the river. What do you know, but the Kami-town Dragon Canoe Race was on! One person sat in the back, on the rudder. Another was in the front with a drum, a la Ben Hur (ramming speed!) The others indulged in some "Row Row Row Your Boat".

Girls, Getaways, Geeks and Lingerie
Once a geek, always a geek.
After tying a niffty little sarong discreetly over my bikini, I walked around the pool to the parking lot to get something from the car. I passed close enough to geek boy’s table to see what had him so enraptured. The binder was a Microsoft Windows programing training guide. Suffice it to say, I couldn’t imagine why anyone, geek or otherwise, would be spending a gorgeous summer day sitting by a pool at the Hampton Inn in Po’dunk*, reading a computer training guide.

Bikini Shoot
Sex sells.
Yesterday a friend and myself rocked up to oriental parade to enjoy what was probably the first nice weather of the year. We were lucky enough to be blessed with some girl doing a bikini photo shoot so we got a very enjoyable half hour of watching that. Not sure what it was for, maybe a magazine or something because she wasn't really wearing enough to selling anything ;).

Party
Time to cut off this one!
I came back from this weekend rejuvenated. The beach party on Sat was long but fun — sunlight can be so healing. Then drinking with Toffers was insane, and I got schooled by Toffee, Dennis, and even Irene at pool. Sunday was pretty much nonstop sleeping, I woke up around 5pm? After that, did some work and went to my cousin’s for oysters, shrimp, buffalo wings, pizza, and of course more beer. But after it all, I’m finally cutting back on drinking. A week or two of nonstop booze to dull the senses is great, but it’s time to move on. I’m darker from the beach, sore from all the football, and ready to get healthy again. Mountain biking after work today! w00t!

13 Rules For The Gym
From the 13 rules for the gym, number 8:
8. Stop ogling the ladies. They’re just trying to work out and get in shape. Yeah, there’s something about a good lookin’ broad in one of those sporty speed swimsuits and in their workout clothes on a treadmill but they honestly just want to do their workout and go home. They don’t need anybody to show off for them (see rule 7). And while we’re on the subject...

Anyone Remember "Shred Magazine"?
I think I would have remembered!
Back in 1989, right before I hit college, I discovered the coolest magazine ever created. It wasn’t Spin or Rolling Stone or anything like that. It was called “Shred Magazine” and it blew my 17 year old mind apart. Essentially a hi-rent ‘zine, Shred covered not only skateboarding, surfing and other non-mainstream sports, it also had articles about bands I’d never heard of and political views that had just begun to picque my college-ready brain’s interest. The first issue had an article on Alan Moore and Bill Sienkiwicz’s “Brought To Light”, followed immediately by a profile on Charles Burns. There was a blatant pro-environment editorial stance that happened to coincide with my awakening desire to do my part to save the planet. Shred introduced me to the Church of the Subgenius and taught me that clip art wasn’t just for school flyers.

Beach Boys History
Sounds like a good book for the night stand.
What better summer reading than a history of the Beach Boys and the Southern California experience. Or so I thought. Timothy White’s The Nearest Faraway Place: Brian Wilson, the Beach Boys, and the Southern California Experience
is a laborious history of everything distantly related to the title. I read music biographies to gain insights into the performing, writing, and recording experiences of the artists. Timothy White wrote his book to collect every random story and fact he could find about the Wilsons and California. It’s a shame that a former editor at Rolling Stone couldn’t find himself a decent editor.

Wine Tasting In Southern California
Click through for pictures of the entire tour.Colette soon returned to round up her tipsy wards for the next destination. At this point things were getting a little rough around the edges. People started admitting their smoking-when-drunk habit and cigarettes got passed around. I was informed by two very proper group members that they were actually “friends with benefits”. The topic of topless sunbathing came up. One of our male group members did an excellent pole dance for us on the bus. And finally, someone flashed her thong. Yeahhhhhhhh…….! There’s really nothing quite like observing a nice, respectable group of professionals disintegrate into a raucous group of partyers.

Panama Trip
From a Panama travelog:
As the lancha (boat) left port on a sailing trip for a six hour tour, it started pouring - really pouring. This only lasted for about an hour. We stopped in Dolphin Bay for about 20 minutes to look at dolphins. It wasn’t exactly an eco-tour. Three boats roared around the dolphins in circles, forcing them to swim in circles, leaping from the water regularly. I and an Austrian guy next to me were appalled, but all the latinos on board were thrilled and screaming in glee. So much for the romantic image of sailing along with the sun shining and dolphins leaping along the ship playfully, making happy dolphin noises.

Summer Vacation
Can we go, too?
I'm extra excited for the vacation part in Nice along the coast. A whole ten days with nothing to think about (except for the usual things I'll think about, but oh well). Beaches, crisp blue water, shops, and clubs.....finally a summer vacation!!

Going to Virginia Beach
We know all about launching new websites here at Blog Carnival, but we didn't get a vacation to Virginia Beach!
I’m going to try and catch an early-evening flight tomorrow to go visit my parents, girlfriend, and grandma in Virginia Beach. I’m looking forward to a little mini vacation because work has been pretty hectic lately with the launch of the new website and all.

Memory Lane
Canoe memories.
As we passed through UTP (which was once our beloved campus), we saw the lakes we once used for canoeing. All of us, except Fidah were members of the Cross Water Elite. Nama je cam best but we mostly did kayak activities. The most memorable one being the Canoe Expedition from Lumut, going around Pangkor and back to Lumut. It was the first time I joined such activity (though when I joined the Belum Expedition when I was in KMK, we had to make our own rafts and spent the whole next day rowing it around Belum). I mean, we were all canoeing in the wide open sea here. And though at first I was so afraid, I guess not 5 minutes into it, all of us were laughing as if we had done it all our lives.

Annoying
Those busty bikini ads are really annoying. :)
I got tired of using BlogPatrol to track my website—every time I went to look at my stats I had to look at annoying banner ads of some dating site! To make it worse it was always showing some women with her brests ready to burst out of her shirt or her bikini top. I usually ignore banner ads—this was just getting too annoying for words!

Saturday Sailing
One less sailing virgin.
Yesterday I went out sailing for the very first time. My buddy Tim loves sailing, and he invited me, Chris (one of his co-workers), and Megan (Chris’s wife) to go sailing for the day. Tim had invited me a couple of times before, but I had prior engagements. I definitely wanted to take advantage of it this time, because I knew the weather was going to be nice and I really didn’t want to spend the day at home.
