Hopelessly Uncool At The Beach
Childhood memories of a 10th birthday at the beach.
If you blogged a beach story, submit it to Blog Carnival with the button at the top of the left column. The first time I ever had the opportunity to cruise the beach at Daytona Beach my Dad insisted on trailering along the pop-up camper. I was only ten years old, but I knew that we were hopelessly uncool...

Musical Labor On Ga Fishing Canoes
Six days a week in harbor towns all along this country‚s palm-fringed coast, small teams of fishermen make their way down to wooden canoes perched and waiting on the beach. They begin their work at a time of day most people sleep, those unaccountable moments after the partygoers late-night farewells and before the shopkeeper’s pre-dawn stirrings. In that inky hour the men use two long 3” x 6” s and a log to skid their boats off the sand and into the water, and mounting a small outboard engine to the stern they shove off into the roaring surf.

Island Hopping
Who'd want to spend time on scuba diving lessons when the beach is so beautiful?
The scuba diving sessions in Koh Tao were, for Jakey at least, very terse. In fact, he took the primary training session which partook in a standard swimming pool with such courageous perserverance, that he capitulated after fifteen minutes. Nevertheless, Pepe continued and completed the course before we both left for Koh Samui.

Some Friendly Advice
Not a good idea to put your girlfriend's picture in the family album, even inadvertently.
And in between the pictures of your dad’s birthday and your cousins playing in the pool, she will find one of herself. In a bikini top, eating a tunafish sandwich, with ZIT CREAM on her face.

Massachusetts Family
Nice story about the family and the beach.
I have to say, the Canty family sure knows how to party. Staying with my grandparents was a wonderful, wonderful time filled with cheesesteak subs, trips to the beach (the east coast has warm beaches!), looking at old family pictures, meeting cousins, and checking out Boston.

Vituously To The Beach
So instead I went - virtuously - up north to the sun-soaked tropical beaches of Ilheus, Bahia. It was wonderful to spend a week acclimatising and getting my head into a suitably receptive state for the seminar.

Nude Beach Photos
Good article on some spooky photography.
There’s some disturbing implications of this technology, though - Flint shows us a beautiful photo of a paraglider over a stretch of beach. As we zoom in, we discover it’s a nude beach, and Flint has photographed a bunch of nude bathers from over a mile away. Not his intention, but certainly a consequence of being able to take really big photos.

Gettin' In Shape
Yes it chaps my ass that if I’d just DONE the damn program over the last 3 years I’d have had the body I wanted too. Even when I have lost weight I’ve been thinner but still.. eh. Not at all where I’d be comfortable wearing a bikini or anything. I’m glad I’m finally ready to do it, am doing it, and I love my muscles!

Icelandic Kayak Odyssey.
Whilst the estimated distance is much less at around 1500 miles, the conditions he is likely to face as he paddles around the island could be very extreme. Sean says that the expedition named Icelandic Kayak Odyssey will about much more than achieving a world first record. The greatest challenge will be the south coast beaches where huge dumping surf pounds the black volcanic sand incessantly. He will need all the skill and experience he gained from his journey around the British Isles to complete this expedition.

Up A Creek
Lots of posts on the NBC reporter who made things look worse than they were.
“Take note of her last sentence,..”it’s really tough to control a canoe or boat when you’re out in it.” Uhhhh yeah, I’ve heard those ankle-deep floods have quite a deadly current! Which is why she didn’t notice the guys splash by her boat while she was performing her little skit - it was tough controlling her little canoe!”

End Of Fresher's Week
College sounds exhausting, and the studying apparently hasn't started yet.
How do you have a beach party in London? It’s Oct 11th at 12:30 am. It’s been a great freshers week. Here there’s a lot more focus on drinking, so I was at the pub almost every night - then out to a club afterwards. We’ve had our hall photo done, so I got to wear my gown (no pics of me in it yet, wait till next friday). As well there’s been nights like ‘Barn Dance,’ ‘Quiz Night,’ ‘Bar Olympics,’ ‘Kariokee,’ a ‘beach party.’ I’ve been on a pub crawl, and to two pretty cool pubs.

Punta Del Este
Another beautiful beach to visit.
Punta del Este looks like the GoldCoast - towering apartment blocks close to the beaches. In October - it's almost a ghost town. Often we were the only pair in a restaurant. In "the season", one million people descend on the place.

Falling Off The Edge Of The World
I've heard of Niagra Falls and Angel Falls, but never Puerto Iguazu y Fox do Iguacu.
On the Argentinean side there was one area that truly showed the power of the falls off: there is a large ledge where several hundred metres of waterfalls drop their loads, from 70 metres above, onto. This water, already a churning mass, can’t simply flow off the next edge of this ledge, but is funnelled to the right, when looking at the falls, through to one spot, one waterfall of about 30 metres or so! The result; a huge churning, exploding, beast of a mass of atomic powered and erupting water that I would imagine would have no qualms in removing all major limbs and external body parts of any person unlucky enough to tumble down there! It was awesome and maybe from my surfing days and knowing how powerful a 12-foot wave can feel, an ant versus this puppy, it actually scared me and sent a shiver down my spine watching and marvelling at it. If the world is short of power in the future then lets simply erect some sort of hydro-electric facility here and power not only all of mankind, but any other type of Galactic species we find in the future - I kid you not, 50 Hiroshima’s per second, forget BHP!!!! There’s enough to go round for everyone!

Isla Mujeres
If you're near Cancun, check out the Isla Mujeres.
If you are planning a vacation trip to Cancun, hop the ferry across the bay to the small finger-shaped Isla Mujeres. The name means “Island of Women” and there are a number of theories as to how the name came to be but it’s not because of the topless beach. The important thing is that it’s a great place to vacation in the sun.
