Beach Party Leads To Arrests
From the Boston police blotter:
(O)fficers from District 14 responded to a loud party call at 1999 Commonwealth Avenue. Despite the weather conditions, which were snow and low temperatures, the officers discovered a beach party on the sixth floor. The officers observed people entering the lobby wearing shorts, and bathing suits. The Boston officers along with personnel from Boston College observed 39 people leaving the building as they responded to the sixth floor. Once in the apartment, the officers saw red plastic cups of beer, three empty 30 packs of Ginny Light Beer, along with empty bottles of Bacardi Rum, Jim Beam, and Rubinoff Vodka. All three residents were under 21-years of age and were arrested for being Keeper of a Disorderly House, and Minors in Possession of Alcohol.

Face Plant
Nothing worse than a good face plant when you water ski.
I put on a slalom ski and my first go was face plant city. I gave the thumbs up to go again and got up this go round. It was great; I had a long run, jumped the wake three times and couldn’t believe I could still do this – awesome! Marlo was jazzed that her Mom can water-ski and Paul was hooting with enthusiasm. I stayed in the water with Marlo for her next series of tries and then Larry Tepper got in for the assist after I got to cold. Marlo still did not have it, but she got really close. I feel certain that tomorrow will be her day; she’ll get the muscle memory and stand for a nice run. She’s so determined there’s no way she’s not going to make it! Boy is she going to sleep well tonight. Once we came in, Paul left with Justin Smit to do some scuba diving – he loved it!

Gay Travel In Jamaica
The murder and mutilation of Jamaican gay activist Brian Williamson still invokes warnings for gays considering travel to Jamaica.
So why is it when I googled “gay travel” and "Jamaica" that my computer didnt' blow up? I searched through several travel sites with various affiliations (some queer friendly, some more generic with gay travel sections). They all offered warnings about the intensity of Jamaican’s homophobia ("hysterical reactions"). And after warning you, most sites suggest that you can still travel there as long as you keep your sexuality to yourself. Hm. Come to Jamaica and stay in the closet? One site even said that you should be prepared to receive a strange glance from locals if you out yourself. Not a single site honestly explains that if you are SUSPECTED of being gay, you may be beaten, raped, jailed, and/or KILLED. Hysterical is a euphemism for murderous.

Ten Years Later
A lament about South Beach ten years after Gianni Versace was gunned down.
Something’s still bothering me from my visit to South Beach last week: Gianni Versace — not the fact that he lived in South Beach, but that he died there. Not even that… simply, the after effects.

Attack Of The Swimsuit Clones
Has the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit EditionAs an adolescent, I was a huge fan of the Swimsuit Edition, but as I get older, I find myself growing less and less impressed. The girls - pretty, to be sure - look run-of-the-mill, like your standard San Diego beach girls, with better hair and makeup. Sometimes.

Mardi Gras
This partier has Mardi Gras genes and a beach upbringing, the best of nature and nurture.
Note: For ones that are not familiar with my hometown area it is on the eastside of the Mobile Bay on an island at the southern most tip of Alabama. The beaches are like sugar along the Gulf of Mexico coastline bordering the Florida state line. An island called Pleasure Isle including cities Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.

Olympics
In so many words.
This ratings thing is why the Olympic beach volleyball team has to wear swimsuits to play volleyball. A few years back an attractive woman named Gabriel Reese tried to wear a full-length pair of stretchy pants made of spandex, but they said, “No dice, put on a swimsuit so we can see your butt cheeks when you lunge for the ball. While you are at it, if you can bend over a lot so that we can take close up pictures of you bending over that would sure help ratings too”.

The food: Mr. Wierzelewski, I am delighted that you have been on a trip around the world to learn about flavors and follow the spice route as we were told by our waiter. But, my most heartfelt advice to you is to focus on one of the places you liked the most and really, really create "first-rate" dishes. Your menu is all over the place. . Indian, Moroccan, Asian, ceviche, Florida stone crab claws. . .I truly believe that if you will pick one. .probably the Moroccan. . and just go with it. . that you will have the kind of reputation that brings people back again and again. And, that is what South Beach restaurants really need to survive longterm rather than just as the Restaurant of This Year.

I really enjoyed listening to all of the old storys about mias family.. and learning more about American History from Mias Nanna and Grandad.
