Myrtle Beach Film Festival
If you're in Myrtle Beach, check out the film festival.
It’s me again with a brief note to let you know that, “We’re the Government — and You’re Not,” will be showing this weekend at the Myrtle Beach International Film Festival in Myrtle Beach, S.C. (I also found out this weekend that the film is one of five nominated as best short film by the festival’s judges.) That makes six festivals for our little film so far. Just to recap, we’ve screened in Atlanta, Birmingham, Chicago and Portland, Ore. The remaining two festivals that we already know about are in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Myrtle Beach. I hope there will be more to report later.

The Paper Update...
If you're near Galveston and see a sea turtle, give a call.
- Paper that I forgot about on the seminar I attended about saving the Kemp’s Ridley Sea Turtle. Doing my part to help bring them back to the Galveston beaches. (If you see one down there, or you spot turtle tracks, call 866-Turtle5 right away.)

The 'Ole Dock
A nice memory.
As we trolled around a small point I saw the ‘ole dock. I debated in mind whether or not to ask dad if we could make a few casts by it. There was nothing really special about this dock. It has virtually remained unchanged since the days my cousin and I ruled the high seas from a green kevlar canoe as kids.

Easter Holiday In Miramar
Great beaches in Argentina.
Miramar has a number of stores, if you’re into shopping. The place looks like it gets quite busy during the summer but the off-season is very tranquil. The nicest aspect of Miramar are the charming stone houses. While Miramar isn’t my favorite place on the coast (I actually prefer even smaller, more woodsy places), Miramar is a nice small, family-oriented town with good beaches and there is a forested area on the western edge of town. Also, there’s the unusual Bosque Energetico, which I will blog about in a future posting. I’ll also try to put up some photos from Miramar later.

Sunday Sloughblogging
Canoeing on the Columbia Slough.
I got up ridiculously early this morning to canoe and kayak on the Columbia Slough with Mary, Susan, and Patrick. There were plenty of Great Blue Herons, as usual, and hundreds of Cliff and Tree Swallows feeding on insects and getting their nests in order. We also saw Mallards, Gadwalls, Yellow-Rumped Warblers, Common Yellowthroats, Song Sparrows, Bald Eagles, Ospreys, a Red-Tailed Hawk, and a Great Horned Owl that was perched on the shady branch of a tree. But the only decent picture I got was of this cute raccoon:

Better Than Helmut Kohl's Ass
Some comments on swimsuit fashion in light of the publication of German Chancellor Merkel's bare behind in a British tabloid.
I'm all for privacy, but having spent a good deal of time on beaches in Europe and South Florida, where I've witnessed countless thousdands of other, unfortunately Merkel-esque (or worse) German men and women strip down pretty much wherever and whenever they please, I'm not buying the argument. (I can personally attest to the fact that for every hot chick on Miami's South Beach wearing very little, there are three fat Germans wearing even less.)

Bikini Turns 60!
Happy Birthday to the bikini!
In 1946 Louis Réard, a car engineer who had taken over his mother’s lingerie boutique near Les Folies Bergères in Paris, met with disbelief when he brought out a new range of skimpy, two-piece swimsuits made from just 70cms (27½in)of cloth. Although similar garments had been worn by Roman and Greek women to the baths, they were considered shocking in M Réard’s day. Provocatively, his garment revealed the navel — a part of the anatomy banned as indecent from Hollywood films under the Hays Code in the 1930s. [Source]

Bikini Blog
Some bikini humor from Stockholm.
It seems to be so very popular with bikini blogs and with blogs that have girls in even more less clothes than bikinis, so we’re thinking: what about us? Should we contribute too? We also want to be trendy….

Bunny Stories
Click through for more on the story of Jimmy Carter, the canoe, and the bunny.
Of course it isn’t as hare-raising as some of the things that have happened here in the jolly old USA, just ask our brave ex-President Jimmy Carter. Back in April of 1979, while canoeing, he encountered a big bad brazen bunny of his very own.
