Swimsuit Shopping
Oh yeah, ladies, I’m talking about the dreaded swimsuit shopping. Since we’re getting ready to head to KC for fun and frolic at Worlds of Fun/Oceans of Fun, I decided I’d better darn well get to the store and buy myself a fat-suit… er, I mean a swimsuit. I was feeling particularly plucky on Monday, and decided since I’d gotten a little sun at the ball games, I was looking pretty darn good, and maybe trying on swimsuits wouldn’t be the traumatic experience I was stressing about. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Sorry, I crack myself up sometimes…

Memorial Day
Supply meets demand at the beach.
So Monday was the Memorial Day, which is apparently a major deal here. Besides all the obvious it is also considered the beginning of summer (translation: that’s when they will put a fee on or raise the fee on pretty much all the beaches).

Windsurfing Boy's Poker Night
Click through for pics of the windsurfers playing poker.
The loose group of us that go windsurfing at Bude got together recently at Steve’s house to play poker. Karl was there too and it was an excellent night. I got a tad messy and that’s my excuse for bombing out early in all of the games.

Pierced Nipples
The story about the pierced nipples.
During my short beach vacation this last April with my family, I was swimming with my cousins. They were screaming and diving into the waves, begging me to get my hair wet as I trembled waist deep at the sharp, freezing pain of the Atlantic Ocean. As I pondered how they had talked me into this, my thoughts were burst by the sudden question, blurted through salt-choked sea giggles, "Why did you peirce your nipples?"

"No Trip Is Complete..."
A rant about travel guides, saunas, and swimsuits.
Yeah right. Not only are the facts wrong (swimsuits are optional), it’s hardly a thing that one must do for a trip to be complete.

Training And More Training
From a great post on training for sailing.
Well, end of another wonderful day in Valencia. We had a good 4hrs of sailing and I spent half the time in the mid section of the boat… the dreaded grinding area! It is certainly hard work! I was helping to “initiate” the new Chinese fella Wen Pei in the grinder position. Thierry is the teacher and I am the translator.

The South Shore
This blogger did not like The Shore Club in South Beach.
The South Beach Ad Show with La Espanita is done, and now I'm visiting my friends the Dins in Fort Lauderdale. Mi Ya Mi was strange and disorienting: it is bad to land in the US, which confuses me enough, without being in such a schitzo place like Mi Ya Mi.

Kite Surfing
Click through for some excellent pics of kite surfing on Garrettstown beach.
Following some good advice, I spent a good portion of last Saturday at Garrettstown beach. The start of the day seemed rather uneventful. It was bitterly cold, hugely windy and the waves were very scrappy/patchy. Not conditions similar to other more eventful trips to Garrettstown. Nevertheless, I stuck around for a few hours; until my grumbling stomach finally got the better of me and I thought I’d retreat for some munchies. How and ever, as it sometimes does, things improved infinitely. On driving past the other end of the beach, I spotted a few lads unrolling and setting up various sails. Aha. Windsurfing! Not only that, kite surfing also! Jackpot…

Sunbathing Billboard
Sunblock, literally and metaphorically, for sunbathers.
An amazing example of innovative communication design, this billboard by New Zealand’s Clemenger BBDO won a Bronze Lion at this year’s Cannes. The billboard uses over 12,000 aluminum pegs on a white background to to create images using the sun instead of conventionally printed media. When there is no sunlight the billboard appears to be blank, but in the sunshine a sunbathing woman appears.

Heaven At Only 10,000 Ft
Finding angels at an unusually low altitude.
Last weekend Connor, Christina and I went to Lake Tahoe for the first time - a real shame considering we have lived within a 3hr drive of this fantastic place for the last 6 years… and have had the opportunity to go every year with the company ski trip.

Leaving Lake Tahoe
We never get tired of hearing about Lake Tahoe!
Today when we were driving home (from, where else, Lake Tahoe! Are you tired of hearing about Lake Tahoe yet?), we were about 20 minutes from our house when J said, “Mommy, I feel like to cry.” He says that sometimes. I asked him why, and he started to tear up, and said, “Because I miss Lake Tahoe.”

Review: Nabi No Koi
A review of Nabi No KoiNabi No Koi (Nabbie´s love) is a small movie that I really love, for many reasons. First, it is shot in Okinawa, more specifically in Taketomi-jima, an island 10 minutes from Ishigaki-jima, in the westernmost island chain of Japan, the Yaeyama islands. Taketomi is really a small place, and there is only one little village, typical Ryukyu, and is so beautiful. I spent 2 weeks in Ishigaki, and I visited Taketomi and the beaches many times. It was paradise to me. In Nabi No Koi the action takes place in this island.

South Africa Notes
Great windsurfing at Jeffrey's Bay in South Africa.
Click through for more South Africa travelblog.Week two and and half onwards has been spent in Jeffrey’s Bay at the Bross’ huge pad. Life in J’Bay is extremely slow paced in this surf town - which I’ve yet to do here because I’m a wuss that doesn’t want to be in the cold water without a wetsuit..ditto with the windsurfing.

Aaaaaaaaallll Ready To Go
Off for a week in Maine.
Drink beer. Build campfires. Tell glorious tales of sport, women and drunkeness. Bond with my inner Tim Allen-ish man and grunt for no reason. And try not to swamp the canoe at any point...that river water is far too cold.

Dead Dolphins In Zanzibar
Scientists have not determined what caused hundreds of dolphins to die on a Zanzibar beach.
A friend of mine just bought a backpackers’ hostel in Zanzibar. It looks like just about one of the most gorgeous places on earth and I can’t wait to visit. Hopefully this mass dolphin stranding won’t have too much impact on their growing tourism industry.

Devastation In Dahab Egypt
A post about the recent terrorist attack at an Egyptian resort town.
Dahab is apparently well known for its windsurfing and scuba diving. Israelis also frequent the locale, and as a resort town, and one should expect the usual suspects to come forward claiming credit for the attacks considering that these attacks are similar to attacks in Sinai in 2004 or in Sharm el Sheikh in 2005 as well as at other tourist related sites around the world. Here's a hint. It won't be the Quakers.

Trip To Myrtle Beach
A weekend in a run down hotel at Myrtle Beach:
I’m back from a weekend at the beach. Myrtle beach, that is. I’d never been before, and I still feel like I haven’t. We stayed a little off the beaten path, in a run down hotel at the edge of the strip, so I saw none of the Dolly-Partonesque displays of excess the town is known for. It’d almost be worth it to go during a really busy weekend, just for the spectacle of it. Almost, but not quite.
