Night On The Bosphorus
Beautiful description of sailing on the Bosphorus.
And then we headed back to the water to board a boat for a nighttime tour of the Bosphorus. The boat had two levels, an open upper deck and a covered lower deck with tables and a kebap grill (not that any of us were hungry!). We sat on the upper deck, took a lot of pictures, chatted and laughed and got to know each other, and saw the sights of the Bosphorus. I think Kemal belonged to an organization which had chartered the cruise, because he seemed to know everyone - many people were more distant relatives - and some announcements were made which I didn’t understand. The Bosphorus by night - lights sparkling on either shore - we passed fancy clubs with flashing pinks and blues, mosques and palaces lit from below, old waterfront homes called yalıs, the grand bridges linking the two sides of the city… the wind picked up and blew our hair around our faces, and Kemal’s wife wrapped me in an extra sweater she’d brought. We went inside for a while to get away from the cold, but soon headed back outside to see more of the magical world passing by… It occurred to me again just how many things there are to see in this city. And people have been sailing this very route for hundreds - thousands - of years.

Black Sand Beaches of Hawaii
If you're on Hawaii's black sand beaches, keep your eye out for Portugese Man of War body parts while you're sunbathing.
Visitors beware - If you are walking barefoot on the beach in Waianapanapa State Park keep your eyes peeled for Portuguese Man-of-War bladders. These transparent blue tinged bubbles with long trailing tails washed up onto the beaches by a south-easterly wind, give a painful sting. A further warning – Nude sunbathing is not only frowned upon on the islands, but it is illegal.

No Sense Of Humor In Daytona
Hang on to your Ball U tee-shirt when traveling in Daytona Beach.
It is off to Muncie and Ball State tomorrow for further College Day adventures. At least I can get me another "Ball U" T shirt like the one the cops made me take off in Daytona Beach in 1979. Those cracker cops have no sense of humor.

Abel Tasman Coastal Track
Trip report on the beaches of New Zealand.
So, New Zealand has a collection of great and not-too-difficult hikes called the Great Walks. One of them is called the Abel Tasman Coastal Track, which Paul and I decided to tackle over two days. It usually takes 3-4 days, including lots of time to stop and bathe at the golden sand beaches.

The Levante beach is famous for its calm, clean, crystalline waters that have always enjoyed the distinction of the EU´s Blue Flag, the fine sand and the city´s most varied and famous leisure activities. It has an enormous number of visitors and is one of the most densely-used beaches in Spain. Also know for one of the best spots for all types of water sports such as: Water ski, Jet ski, paragliding, windsurfing, cable skiing and scuba diving to name just a few.

No Biketoberfest
Taking the "fest" out of Biketoberfest in Daytona Beach.
Back some time ago, I received a certified letter from the Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau ( DBACVB ) advising me to remove the “fest” from my Biketober site. The letter stated that the word Biketoberfest® is a registered trademark owned by the DBACVB. This letter was different of previous correspondence coming from the non-profit organization in that it did not give a reason why.
