Vacation Day Four
Onwards to Daytona Beach!
Tomorrow:We head to Daytona Beach where Josh will be in his friend’s wedding. Sunday we have no plans though if it’s nice, we’ll hit the beach since that’s Brianna’s favorite thing. I can’t believe vacation is half over and that we’re done with the Disney portion. Waaah!

Doing Disney
If you're going to Daytona Beach, consider a stay in Orlando.
So one of Josh’s good friends is getting married in Daytona Beach in September. We discussed going down and staying in Orlando, driving to Daytona Beach for the wedding. I looked at tickets for the three of us…$350 round trip for three seats to Orlando. I’m thinking…we’re taking our first trip to Disney!

The Sands Of Time
Nothing like a deck when you're visiting Daytona Beach.
I am sitting in lovely Daytona Beach, FL, and the date is October 28th, 2006. My wife and I are at a friend’s house, and we will all be leaving soon to go spend the evening with some of our other friends at a favorite local bar/restaurant called The Ocean Deck - so named because you can literally walk in off of the beach and get a drink or some great food.

Katherine Harris Wins Daytona Beach
Katherine Harris takes polls among her Daytona Beach supporters to insure the right results.
What a clever ploy, only accept the numbers from straw polls taken at small gatherings of Katherine Harris fans. Just like the one she did the day before in Daytona Beach:

No Sense Of Humor In Daytona
Hang on to your Ball U tee-shirt when traveling in Daytona Beach.
It is off to Muncie and Ball State tomorrow for further College Day adventures. At least I can get me another "Ball U" T shirt like the one the cops made me take off in Daytona Beach in 1979. Those cracker cops have no sense of humor.

No Biketoberfest
Taking the "fest" out of Biketoberfest in Daytona Beach.
Back some time ago, I received a certified letter from the Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau ( DBACVB ) advising me to remove the “fest” from my Biketober site. The letter stated that the word Biketoberfest® is a registered trademark owned by the DBACVB. This letter was different of previous correspondence coming from the non-profit organization in that it did not give a reason why.

Hopelessly Uncool At The Beach
Childhood memories of a 10th birthday at the beach.
If you blogged a beach story, submit it to Blog Carnival with the button at the top of the left column. The first time I ever had the opportunity to cruise the beach at Daytona Beach my Dad insisted on trailering along the pop-up camper. I was only ten years old, but I knew that we were hopelessly uncool...

Economic Blight My Arse
The recent Supreme Court decision allowing government to seize property may be a boon for developers.
The city of Daytona Beach, Florida is trying to seize three parcels of beachfront property under Eminent Domain in order to allow the construction of a hotel project. This action is proceeding under Florida law, which states that seizure of property for economic development can only occur to prevent or eliminate blight.

Duane Allman's Daytona Days
A great story about the Allman brothersClick through for the entire story.Below the jump, Jim Shepley, the fellow who taught Duane his first licks, recounts wild tales of Duane the juvenile delinquent. I bet y'all will like this one better than last week's article:
I met Duane in a pool hall in Daytona Beach when I was about 14. I was shooting pool, and he saw me and came over and started talking. I learned that he had just moved down from Tennessee with his mother and his brother. We lived close to one another - he was in Daytona Beach Shores - and that's how our friendship started. Over the years we rode motorcycles together, we played together, we partied together. We were definitely the best of friends back then. I really liked the guy.

Coleslaw Wrestling
Okay, this is a first in my book!
Crowds in Daytona Beach, Fla., enjoyed Bike Week’s messiest event in March of 2004 as women wrestled each other in a giant pool of coleslaw, according to Local 6 News. Sopotnick’s Cabbage Patch bar in Samsala sponsors the annual coleslaw wrestling matches as part of the Bike Week motorcycle festival that draws hundreds of thousands of bikers nationwide to the Daytona Beach area. The women who enter Sopotnick’s event wrestle each other in bikinis and less for a grand prize of $500. However, most of the...

Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Internet
We could all use a little Daytona Beach time.
My blog — without notifying me or asking my permission — made a decision based on poor impulse control and weak moral fiber and decided to run off for Spring Break to Daytona Beach with my Jeep and my wallet.
...on the other hand, I'm recalling one long-ago trip to Daytona Beach myself where good taste and/or discretion wasn't necessarily available on the menu.
