California Dreamin'
I try to ignore the super rich in Laguna Beach.
The following weekend, the two guys with me from the company and I rented a convertible and drove the Pacific Coast Highway, stopping off in Laguna Beach just long enough to rekindle my hatred and distrust of the super-rich. On the way back to Hollywood, we stopped off at a gigantic shopping center (for research - honest), where I got to see the astonished looks on my Japanese companions’ faces as they beheld their very first WalMart.

Mudslide Destroys Dreadfully Overpriced Homes
Very little sympathy in the blogosphere for Laguna Beach landslide victims.
Laguna Beach has been dry since a trace of rainfall nearly a month ago, but before that, Southern California had its second-rainiest season on record. The region has gotten nearly 28 inches of rain since last July, more than double the annual average.

Laguna Beach Wealth
Once upon a time, Laguna Beach was a simple beach town.
WOW what an amazing time!!!! I LOVE CA. We stayed in a little motel in Laguna Beach and that are was beautiful. I had never seen a Bently and I think I had to have seen at least 25 Bents and 3 Rolls. They buy Mercades like they are VW. I was amazed at the amount of money that drove down the streets there. The weather was beautiful and so were the people. Missy and I were sitting in the nail salon with all of these women and of course we were chatting and we found out that none of them work. They were all house wifes and stay at home moms. What a life. Get up in the morning go jogging on the beach, go home take a shower, get beautiful and then go get a pedicure. These women even had cleaning ladies!!!! I wish.

Don't Worry - It's On You!
Another post about taxpayers' money and natural disasters.
If the Laguna Beach landslide took place last year just before elections, it might have received the same federal assistance as Florida did after the hurricanes. So the next time our representatives start mentioning that they need to raise taxes because there's not enough funds for Homeland Security, increased border patrols, additional GI benefits or proper voter identification and registration procedures, perhaps we should politely remind them that subsidizing someone else's desire to build an at-risk home in Laguna Beach, Malibu and Santa Monica might not be the wisest use of our existing taxpayer funds.

Some Laguna Beach Homeowners Not Insured
A tragic landslide in Laguna Beach and the first thing on most bloggers' minds this week? Tax dollars.
Here's how not to save for retirement. Put all your money into a home on the side of a landslide prone area where you can't get insurance and then crying when your home and your life savings take a dive off the side of a cliff.

Happy Birthday to ME!!!!
I want one of these kinds of birthdays, too!
Adam treated me to a fabulous stay at Montage Laguna Beach while we were in CA. It was the nicest hotel I have ever stayed at. When we drove up to the valet, the men asked our last name, radioed the front desk, and by the time we walked through the front doors, a lady was there to meet us with room keys and paperwork. We were given complimentary Champagne and sparkling cider (for Aidan), and our room opened out onto a beautiful, semi-private lawn with views of the tide pools and ocean below. We had our photos taken on the beach by the same, awesome photographer that took our engagement and wedding photos, and when Aidan was 4 months old. I couldn't have asked for a better birthday present (although I guess I did ask for it).

Errol Flynn Spotted on Laguna Beach
Well, it was a re-run.
This was another pairing of Errol Flynn with Basil Rathbone - they would match swords in The Adventures of Robin Hood that same year (as in Captain Blood, from 1935; Govindini and I have actually been to the spot in Laguna Beach where they filmed the sword-fight between Flynn and Rathbone in Captain Blood ). This is a good place to mention that Flynn and David Niven were living together at the time in a bungalow on the Santa Monica beach - a bungalow they referred to as “Cirrhosis By the Sea” (they were both...
