A Lot Busier In The Grand Strand
Business is just about to pick up around Myrtle Beach.
I can’t remember the last time I drove on an interstate in South Carolina and didn’t see at least one Ohio license plate. As annoying as that can be, for a state with a thriving tourist industry, this is just as much of a blessing as it is a curse. Myrtle Beach, for example, has gone from a sleepy little resort town just a few decades ago to one of the most popular vacation spots in the country, drawing more than 13 million tourists every year.

A Roadtrip Against Homophobia
Aaron's wasn't the first story like this that I uncovered. On my first stop in Myrtle Beach, SC, I learned about Sean Kennedy (20) who was killed May 16, 2007 in Greenville, SC, another state that has no hate crime legislation in effect. Sean's killer, yet again another 18-year-old Caucasian male, hit Seanso hard in the face that he broke his wrist.

Sloppiness Doesn't Become You
Get rid of all those sloppy peopleYesterday we spent the entire day in downtown Myrtle Beach. It is a touristy town, even in March. There were plenty of people all around to watch. And I did. And I didn't like what I saw.

Trip To Myrtle Beach
A weekend in a run down hotel at Myrtle Beach:
I’m back from a weekend at the beach. Myrtle beach, that is. I’d never been before, and I still feel like I haven’t. We stayed a little off the beaten path, in a run down hotel at the edge of the strip, so I saw none of the Dolly-Partonesque displays of excess the town is known for. It’d almost be worth it to go during a really busy weekend, just for the spectacle of it. Almost, but not quite.

Myrtle Beach Film Festival
If you're in Myrtle Beach, check out the film festival.
It’s me again with a brief note to let you know that, “We’re the Government — and You’re Not,” will be showing this weekend at the Myrtle Beach International Film Festival in Myrtle Beach, S.C. (I also found out this weekend that the film is one of five nominated as best short film by the festival’s judges.) That makes six festivals for our little film so far. Just to recap, we’ve screened in Atlanta, Birmingham, Chicago and Portland, Ore. The remaining two festivals that we already know about are in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Myrtle Beach. I hope there will be more to report later.

Jellyfish
I don't think you'll be seeing any Nomura's Jellyfish near Myrtle beach anytime soon.
If I even thought that a Jellyfish that was 6 ft wide and 450 pounds was swimming around at Myrtle Beach, I think I would have to move even further inland.

Crab Legs And Hot Dogs
A cuisine delight for the kids in Murrells Inlet.
After soccer, we drove to Myrtle beach. Our first stop was a seafood restaurant in Murrell’s Inlet. I had the Grouper, and the kids had crab legs and hot dogs. Next, we played 18 holes of putt putt.

Myrtle Beach Rally
Click for more info on this:
Shank said he thinks more people came to the Myrtle Beach rally this year because the weather in Daytona Beach has not been very good the past few years, because there are lots of beachfront hotels here and less expensive hotels than in Daytona, and because there is more opportunity to ride here. ``Some rallies you go and sit. Here you can get out and ride. We try to encourage people to go to Charleston and Wilmington. People have a bike for a reason,'' Shank said.

See You In Myrtle Beach
Don't know when, but see you at Myrtle Beach.
Those who know me know I'm not a good navigator. If ever a guy could turn a 41/2 hour trip, into a 8 hour adventure-its me! My family laughingly will tell you they've never been to Myrtle Beach, SC the same way twice! Yet we've vacationed there on and off for nearly 30 years! Folks have tried to encourage me. They've told me I can learn to navigate better-my wife assures me I have potential-but two words just keep tripping me up-short cut! I just can't resist looking for a short cut!

Finding Love In Myrtle Beach
Ok so it has been a couple of days… months… since I got to post. Sorry. Since I last talked to you I have been many places and seen many wonderful things! First I want to tell you about my “first spring break” in February. Chelsea and I went to Myrtle Beach! It was a well deserved trip we both earned. We stayed in the crappiest hotel I have ever stayed in. It was beach front though… but it was also Off Season. Service was crap. Anyways… The high light of that trip was that I found my true love (joking Brad,...

Missing Frances At Myrtle Beach
Last year's hurricane season made for a challenging time on the coast. A few people made out ok, though.
We just got back from spending the long weekend at Myrtle Beach. We had a great time and managed to stay ahead of Hurricane Francis! By the time it reached us we were on our way home and it was downgraded to a tropical storm so we just saw a bit of rain and wind. It followed us home and now we're getting a lot of rain and wind here too!

Back At Myrtle Beach
Myrtle Beach is affectionately refered to by enlightened South Carolinians as "The Redneck Riveria." Alas, I am there.
A few obesrvations from my informed perch:1. There are more American flags here than you can throw a stick at.
2. Should you decide to throw said stick, you will pummeled.
3. Sticks do not come cheap.
4. A rich redneck is still a redneck.

Red Rites of Summer
i don’t know how far back this tradition actually goes, but i vividly remember a weeklong trip to myrtle beach following my college graduation. i got scorched so bad one day that every called me the Lobster King. A few years ago, i spent a warm April day putting together a new basketball hoop…shirtless. 3 hours later i realized my mistake. That night was painful. The following night was one of the worst of my life as the itching was so bad i literally slept about 2 hours total.
